Di Francesca Galdiero-3^D
This is the story of a young woman that wanted to be an actress.
Mary lived in London with her parents and her younger brother. Her family was rich and Mary grew up studying literature and learning to play the piano and the violin. She loved reading poems, sonnets, novels, and she had a dream: to be an actress, to be the first actress playing in a theatre, even if she knew that was impossible for her; she knew that only men could act in a theatre: acting wasn’t allowed to women. But Mary was headstrong and self confident.
One day she wore her brother’s clothes and went to one of the famous theatre in London.
“I would like to be an actor of your company, sir”, she said in a strange voice to the director of the theatre. “Give me a chance, let me show you my talent”.
The director gave her a script and he was really happy to see that Mary was a good actor.
After a month of theatrical tests, the night of the debutarrived. Mary was excited and very proud of her. The show was a real success. But she knew she couldn’t stay with the company for ever. That was the first and the last time, but Mary was happy. Even if she had had to say she was a boy, she was the first woman to act in a theatre. She was the first actress.
